Kanakkuമലയാളം

For the press

What Kanakku is, what it is not, and how to use its figures: in two minutes.

What Kanakku is

  • An independent, free website showing Kerala's public project figures in Malayalam and English. No ads, no party affiliation.
  • 3622 projects from KIIFB's dashboard; approved and paid amounts for 1403 projects from KIIFB's project status page; 2475 PWD works whose contractor is still liable for repairs.
  • Every figure links to a stored copy of the government page it came from. Updated daily.

What Kanakku is not

  • Not an accusation. A “flag” only marks that published figures crossed a stated threshold; it is not evidence of wrongdoing. 152 projects carry a flag today.
  • Not affiliated with KIIFB or the government. The same rules apply to every party.
  • Not original investigation: only what the government publishes, made readable.

The flag rules

One finding: KIIFB's “payment released”

For projects filed under several districts, the “payment released” on KIIFB's project status list is counted once per district. The list adds up to ₹53,425.23 crore; summed from each project's own works, what has been paid is ₹38,006.44 crore (of ₹92,623.56 crore approved). It affects 286 projects.

This is not evidence of missing money. It is a counting quirk: the same payments repeat on each district's row. We told KIIFB on 2 October 2026. Please keep it in mind when quoting KIIFB's totals.

Using the figures

  • Credit the department as the source (KIIFB, PWD) and Kanakku as the compiler. The stored copy linked on every page can serve as your record.
  • Confirm any figure you lead with against the publishing department before publication.
  • All the data can be downloaded under CC BY 4.0.
